Prof. Lifeng Zhang

Presentation Title: to be determined

Lifeng Zhang, professor and president of North China University of Technology. He is the distinguished professor of “Changjiang Scholars" of the ministry of education China, winner of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, the national “ten thousand people plan” innovation leading talent, young and middle-aged leading talent in science and technology innovation of the ministry of science and technology China, the leader of National Huang Danian-style teaching teams of the Ministry of Education. His main research fields are high-quality steel, non-metallic inclusions in steel, simulation of transfer phenomena in metallurgical process. He successively presided over more than 70 scientific research projects, including national, provincial projects and National Defense Science and Technology Project. The total amount of scientific research funds is more than 100 million yuan. At present, over 400 papers retrieved by SCI or EI and three monographs have been published,. Besides, 3 international patent, 40 Chinese patents and 10 software patents have been obtained. He has won many awards, such as Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Award Youth Award, Wei Shoukun Metallurgical Youth Award, AISI Richard J. Fruehan Award, Distinguished Visiting Scholar of Royal Academy of Engineering, etc.


Prof. Yanping Bao

Prof. Yanping Bao is currently a professor at University of Science and Technology Beijing. He is also the academic leader in the steelmaking direction of State Key Laboratory of Advanced Metallurgy. He leads a research group that specializes in the production technology of clean steel and inclusion control, reduction control technology of steel alloy, gradient utilization technology of steelmaking slag and advanced technology of continuous casting. He also serves as the chief editor of the Journal of Continuous Casting, and is an editorial board member of many academic journals, such as IJMMM, etc. Prof. Bao has made co-authored over 80 patents and 500 publications in the steelmaking field and edited 8 books. Prof. Bao won the National Science and Technology Progress for 1 time and Metallurgical Science and Technology Progress Award for 10 times. In 2012, he also won the "Willy Korf Outstanding Education Award" set by the United States and Germany Joint Fund Committee.



Prof. Jianhua Liu

Presentation Title: to be determined

Prof. Jianhua Liu is the director of Center of Low Carbon Metallurgy (CLCM) in the institute of Engineering Technology of USTB, and he serves as a member of Metallurgical Solid Waste Comprehensive Utilization Committee of China Metallurgical Society. He has been a visiting scholar in McGill University, Latrobe University, RWTH Aachen University, and the University of Leoben. He leads a research group that specializes in bubble metallurgy, intelligent steelmaking, and hydrogen application in steelmaking, and he has undertaken nearly 50 projects, including the National Key Research and Development Program and the National Natural Science Foundation of China. His research group has successfully developed a series of technologies for inclusion removal with fine bubbles, such as nitrogen elevating and reducing method (NERM), argon injection at ladle shroud (AILS), argon injection at the down-leg snorkel with RH (AIDSRH), etc., in which fine bubbles have been successfully picked up in molten steel by the innovative methods of cold steel sheet sampling and rapid solidification, respectively. The relevant studies have promoted the rapid development of bubble metallurgy. Recently, he is committed to the technical development of hydrogen application in steelmaking and refining, which will be helpful to carbon reduction in steelmaking process. He has granted around 30 patents and published around 300 technical articles.


Prof. Miaoyong Zhu

Dr. Miaoyong Zhu is currently Professor and Chairman of Academic Committee, School of Metallurgy, Northeastern University (NEU), Shenyang, China, and he is also the deputy director of Steelmaking and Continuous Casting Committee, The Chinese Society for Metal (CSM). He has conducted research primarily in the field of clean steelmaking and continuous casting processes with emphasis on the simulations and controls of non-metallic inclusion behavior during steel refining and solidification phenomena of continuous casting. Dr. Zhu has made co-authored over 150 patents and 500 publications in the steelmaking field and edited 10 books. Dr. Zhu is the winner of National Outstanding Young Scientists Foundation, China and He got the “Wei Shoukun Science Technology and Education Prize” for Young Metallurgist in 2012 and National Award for Science and Technology Progress in 2021.



Prof. Susanne Michelic

Presentation Title: Advances in inclusion metallurgy based on fundamental studies of interactions in the system steel-slag-refractory

Susanne Michelic is a full professor of metallurgy and head of the Chair of Ferrous Metallurgy at the Montanuniversität Leoben in Austria. There, research along the process chain from steelmaking from the raw material, primary and secondary metallurgy up to continuous casting is covered. A special focus is also on the ongoing transformation towards CO2 reduction and the use of hydrogen in steelmaking processes. She also leads the Christian Doppler Laboratory for Inclusion Metallurgy in Advanced Steelmaking, where research focuses on different aspects of steel cleanness and its consequences for specific steel applications. With her research group, she is involved in diverse national and international projects and is a guest professor at the University of Science and Technology of Beijing. Susanne Michelic also serves as Chief Scientific Officer of the metallurgical competence center K1-MET. Among others, she was awarded the Richard Fruehan award by AIST for her research activities on tracing non-metallic inclusions.



Prof. Joohyun Park

Presentation Title: Control of inclusions in secondary refining and continuous casting processes for high-end product applications: Cleanliness of austenitic stainless steel for semiconductor industry 

Prof. Joohyun Park is a director of the Laboratory for the High Temperature Physicochemical Processing of Materials (HiTeP2), Department of Materials Science and Chemical Engineering, Hanyang University, Korea. He was a Senior Research Scientist in the Technical Research Laboratories, POSCO (2002-2008) and now performing research focusing on i) inclusion science and engineering, ii) slag science and technology, iii) sustainable ferrous- and non-ferrous metallurgy for carbon neutral society, etc. He has been an Affiliated Professor of KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden (2019-2021), and a Guest Professor of USTB (2020-2025), an Adjunct Professor of NCUT (2023-2025), China. 
He was selected as a recipient of the Iron- and Steelmaking Technology Award (2005) and Best Patent Award (2006) by POSCO; the Best Young Scientist Award (2012) and Chungwoong Award (2021) by Korea Institute of Metals and Materials; the Marcus Grossmann Young Author Award (2014), EPD Science Award (2020), Key Reader Award (2021), and EPD Pyrometallurgy Best Paper Award (2025) by TMS; the Sawamura Award (2017) by Iron & Steel Institute of Japan; the Minister Award (2021) by Korean Government (Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, MOTIE). He has granted about 30 (International and Korean) patents and published 220 peer-reviewed scientific articles with 540 conference presentations (40 Invited, Keynote and Plenary Lecture).



Prof. Iman El-Mahallawi

Presentation Title: Strategies for handling increased tramp elements in recycled steel 

Prof. Iman El-Mahallawi: BSC in Engineering from Cairo University, July 1981, MSc from Cairo University in Dec. 1983, PhD degree from The University of Leeds in Jan 1987. Currently, Professor of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University and an adjunct Professor at the Mechanical Engineering Department in the British University in Egypt (BUE). Founding Director of the Centre for Renewable Energy CRE at the British University in Egypt. Holding CEng and CSci titles, as well as being a Fellow Member of the IOM3 Royal Institute. H index number is 21 (108 peer reviewed papers Scopus cited publications). 
Visiting Professor Sept. 2006 Freiberg Technical University, Foundry Institute; Oct 2013 to Institute of Metallurgy I-MET Claustahl; Oct 2014 Giesserei Institute GI Aachen. Current job description includes:  teaching undergraduate and postgraduate classes; leading research groups;  writing, publishing and attending workshops and conferences; writing research proposals;  reviewing activities: journals, books, conferences, workshops and articles. Member of Standards and Quality Assurance National Committee.
Award for best submission for innovation in teaching by Unit of Teaching and Learning Projects; Ministry of Higher education Egypt. Best supervised PhD Cairo University 2014 and 2016. Cairo University Research Excellence Award 2014 and Academic Excellence Award 2018. Recognized by RUFORUM Annual General Assembly (2021) among 17 individuals who have contributed significantly to development in Africa. Recognized by AIST Annual Meeting 2022 as a Leader Women working in steelmaking. Presidential recognition by President of Egypt for achievements in steel and casting industries.





Prof. Hossam Ahmed Mohamed Halfa

Presentation Title: Removal non-metallic inclusions utilizing Elecroslag remelting process of 1200MPa precipitation stainless steel

Dr. Hossam Ahmed Mohamed Halfa is a distinguished metallurgist specializing in advanced steel technologies and alloy design. Based at the Central Metallurgical R&D Institute (CMRDI) in Cairo, Egypt, he holds a Ph.D. in Metallurgy from Cairo University (2007). His extensive research spans high-speed tool steels, maraging steels, and environmental protection in metallurgy, with over 77 publications in international journals and presentations at national and international conferences. Dr. Halfa shares as PI, Co-PI, or member of the research team in 40 research projects financed by National and/or International Associations and serves as a mentor and educator in metallurgy and materials science.



Prof. Dipak Mazumdar

Presentation Title: Modelling of argon stirred steelmaking ladles: An overview of four decades of our research 

Prof. Dipak Mazumdar has been teaching and conducting research at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur for nearly four decades. He was a former chairperson of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE), IIT Kanpur and held the distinguished National Academy of Engineering Chair as well as the Ministry of Steel (Govt. of India) Chair during the period 2009-2017. He has been working as a consultant for more than a dozen domestic steel and refractory industries for the past twenty-five years.
An internationally recognized personality in steel education and research, Prof. Mazumdar has coauthored three books, written book- chapters and nearly two hundred scientific articles in peer reviewed journals and conference proceedings. In 2020, Prof. Mazumdar created an online teaching platform through YouTube™ to tutelage metallurgical engineering students (http://www.youtube.com/@dipakmazumdar7761) the essentials of iron and steelmaking. A Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) as well as the Indian Institute of Metals (IIM), he is the recipient of fifteen national and international awards, including Distinguished Educator/Teacher award from INAE (Indian National Academy of Engineering), IIM (Indian Institute of Metals) and IIT Kanpur. Currently, he is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, IIT Kanpur.


Dr. Guangwei Yang

Presentation Title: Effect of Ce on TiN inclusions and the As-cast Structure of Low Carbon Titanium Micro-alloyed Steel

Dr. Guangwei Yang is currently team leader of smelting process and inclusion control group at Steelmaking Research Department of Baosteel Research Institute. He graduated from the University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB)(2005-2015). After graduation, He has been working at the Baosteel Research Institute(2015-2025), performing research focusing on fundamentals and optimization of steelmaking process in pursuit of “High-Efficienty, High-Purity, Low-Cost, Low-Carbon Steelmaking”. He has done several studies, including i) ultralow sulfur refining, ii)inclusion control in high-grade thick plate & high-strength steel, iii)inclusion behavior during secondary refining process, iv)calcium treatment , v) tundish reoxidization, vi)“oxide metallurgy” technology, etc. He has published about 20  scientific articles and 20 conference presentations.
